Effective September 11, 2026
This policy explains how Smiling Plug LLC ("Smiling Plug", "we", "us") collects, uses and shares personal information when you visit smilingplug.org, contact us, or use software we provide.
Information we collect
- Information you send us, such as your name, email address, phone number and the contents of your message.
- Account information for people who use our software: name, email, phone number, business name, and role in the business.
- Business records a business chooses to keep in our software, such as its customers' names, addresses, phone numbers, jobs, estimates and invoices. We process these on the business's behalf.
- Location, only when a user turns on a location feature, such as logging where a door was knocked.
- Technical information such as IP address, browser type and basic usage logs, used to keep the service running and secure.
- Payment information is handled by our payment processor, Stripe. We do not see or store full card numbers.
How we use information
- To provide, maintain and improve our software and website.
- To respond to you and provide support.
- To send service messages, such as receipts, security notices and messages a business asks us to send to its own customers.
- To protect against fraud, abuse and security incidents, and to meet legal obligations.
How we share information
We do not sell personal information. We share it only with:
- Service providers who run parts of our service for us under contract, such as hosting (Cloudflare), payments (Stripe), text messaging (Twilio) and email delivery. They may use the information only to provide those services.
- The business you deal with, when you are a customer of a business that uses our software.
- Authorities, when required by law or to protect rights, property or safety.
- A successor, if Smiling Plug is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, under the same protections described here.
Text messages
Businesses using our software may send text messages to their customers, such as estimates, appointment updates, invoices and review requests, and only to people who have agreed to receive them.
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent are not shared with any third parties, except service providers that deliver the messages.
- Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply.
- Reply STOP to any message to opt out. Reply HELP for help, or email hello@smilingplug.org.
How long we keep information
We keep personal information for as long as an account is active or as needed to provide the service, then delete or anonymise it, unless we must keep it longer for legal, tax or accounting reasons.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information, including encryption in transit. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your choices and rights
You can ask to access, correct or delete personal information we hold about you by emailing hello@smilingplug.org.
